Still Life with Fruit

I'm a bit ambivalent about still lifes.  If you do them right, they can be great fun to create, and interesting to look at.  They challenge my skills at depiction of what is really there, when I'm so often looking at another reality on the inside of my brain, and I really do need that challenge of my skills in order to grow in them.  The downside of still life painting is that you only paint what's there, and it's often fruit or flowers.
Not that I don't like fruit and flowers.  It's just that I don't really like looking at just pictures of fruit and flowers or arbitrary still life set pieces all that much.  Give me a landscape.  Give me a picture of ships.  Hey, give me one of those awful cubist things that is apparently really great art because it doesn't look like much.
Ah.  Now I'm exposing my inner Art Heresy.  I'll get in trouble for this.
Having said that, I'm rather pleased with the faux "Old Master" look of this piece.
