Poppies

This picture was my first exploration of a more Impressionistic style of painting, with irregular blobs of colour rather than long, sweeping brush-strokes and hard edges between colours.  I started this piece as a pure exploration of a new mode of putting paint to canvas, and sat for several minutes staring at the blank canvas before putting anything down - something which rarely happens to me.  I'm normally more one to dive right in and regret, or paint over, at leisure.

Despite some initial scepticism of the technique, I am very pleased with how this turned out.  Making a picture in this way turned out to be a lot of fun, too!
